Nike has released a short film titled 'Dream Further' featuring Matildas captain Sam Kerr, with the film hyping up the Women's World Cup in France set to begin this weekend.

The film looks through the mind of young footballer Makena Cook as she dreams about the future of women not only in their own code of football but in the men's game as well.

The film begins as the young footballer is waiting anxiously alongside Dutch footballer Lieke Martens as the Netherlands takes the field against Nigeria however, soon enough Makena Cook is propelled into the action herself.

As the film continues, scenes such as Makena prepping for a game with the French National Women's team, giving directions to Barcelona's Phillippe Coutinho on the sidelines alongside Alex Scott, as well as Neymar playing a women's football game all showcase the possibilities for women in football in the future.

Finally, we see Cook play alongside Matilda's star striker Sam Kerr as the Australian guides Cook across the field in style. After being fouled, Kerr directs Cook to the dead ball before taking up a position inside the box.

What follows next is a scene we hope to see play out in the World Cup itself as the young footballer directs the ball onto the head of Kerr as she nods the ball past the keeper.

Nike athlete Sam Kerr said: "It's an honour to feature in 'Dream Further' alongside so many incredible female footballers."

"We are heading into the biggest tournament of our lives, and it's awesome to unite fans around the world to support us all.

"We are in Europe at the moment, working hard to put the finishing touches on the team's preparation. The tournament is just days away, it's going to be wild, and we couldn't be more pumped to represent Australia."

The film is a continuation of Nike's commitment to helping the growth of women's sport worldwide and challenges the next generation of athletes to change the world and women's roles in sport.

The Matildas kick off their World Cup campaign this Sunday against Italy with the eyes of a nation watching on.
