Spurs boss Juande Ramos is set to make Sanchez his second summer goalkeeping recruit following Heurelho Gomes' arrival earlier in the close season.

The 36-year-old Spaniard is set for a medical on Monday and if all goes to plan will put pen to paper on a one-year deal at White Hart Lane.

"It is a very good team and a beautiful opportunity in life," Sanchez told Spanish sports daily AS.

"Tottenham is the best transfer that I could hope for in the situation I am in and my age."

Sanchez has been a mainstay between the posts for Zaragoza since joining in 2005.

But the club were relegated last season and new coach Marcelino has made it abundantly clear the veteran shot-stopper is not part of his plans.

Sanchez spent seven years at Valladolid before moving to Primera Liga giants Real Madrid in 2000.

The keeper soon found himself sidelined at the Bernabeu, thanks to the meteoric rise of Iker Casillas - although he did start five of Madrid's nine European games in their successful Champions League campaign in 2002, including the final.

Reports suggest that Spurs will pay Zaragoza 200,000 euros (£150,000) for the keeper, who has one year left on his contract, and will pay around 70% of Sanchez's salary with the remainder being met by the Spanish club.
