Saudi Arabia coach Bert van Marwijk still believes his side can claim one of the automatic qualification spots in their 2018 World Cup group.
The Green Falcons went down 3-2 to Australia at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night, with the Dutch boss admitting his disappointment post-game.
The result leaves both sides, along with group leaders Japan, locked on 16 points in the top three spots, with only the top two gaining automatic qualification for Russia.

“I said from the beginning I was a realist and I’m still a realist,” van Marwijk said.
“From the beginning I said we have a chance and we still have a chance.
“When you see this game, you don’t have to be afraid for a country like Australia, so I’m very frustrated that we lost this game.”

Van Marwijk conceded his side dropped off in the second half after going in at the interval at 2-2.
He said his side ran out of energy in the second 45, appearing to hint that may have had something to do with the bulk of their players observing Ramadan, having not seen the issue in any of their previous qualifiers.
“The third mistake is the reason why we lost the game,” van Marwijk said.
“That’s why I’m very disappointed and also angry. I saw in the second half we had less energy.”
