Schenkeveld, 26, has become one of the A-League's finest recruits this season, guiding the second-best defence in the league with only 33 goals conceded in 27 games.

It was City's highest-ever A-League finish, with the club beating rivals Melbourne Victory to third place.

Schenkeveld joined City after rising through the youth ranks at Feyenoord, also playing for Heracles Almeo and PEC Zwolle. He made a solitary appearance for the Netherlands U/19 national team in 2009.

"Bart is a strong and passionate player for us who has adjusted well to the A-League, but most importantly has provided a key link between defence and midfield," coach Warren Joyce told a-league.com.au

"He's played a pivotal role in breaking down the opposition and moves the ball forward quickly.

"We wanted to build the team's foundations around a strong defensive set up and Bart has helped to drive the team from the back."

Daniel Arzani won the Supporter's Player of the Year award, while Luke Brattan and Nathaniel Atkinson also picked up trophies at City's gala night.
