SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has labelled the decision to play Friday's goalless qualifier with Oman at 5pm local time in oppressive conditions as "ludicrous".

The veteran, who made several fine saves to help Australia earn a draw in their opening final round qualifier, said he believed delaying the kick-off at least an hour would have made a difference to the standard of play.
"It is ludicrous that you play at this time of year and at five o'clock in the afternoon and an hour would have made a difference," he told reporters after the game.
"But Oman want to play at that time to try to get as much benefit out of it."
Socceroos coach Holger Osieck admitted the conditions were very difficult for his players and said their efforts to earn a point were "superhuman".
“I'm comfortable with the draw looking at the conditions and the hot weather which we played the match in,” the German said.
“Our players were good and they managed to have a good match against a team with young players who run a lot."
Osieck added on Fox Sports: “First of all, it's a point on the road. Secondly, you have to consider the circumstances.
"Prior to the game I played it down but what our boys did today was superhuman. Only the people who were at the stadium could know what it means."
The Socceroos now turn their attention to Tuesday's home clash with Japan, who have won their opening two matches at home comfortably over Oman and Jordan.
“The match is now over and our concentration will be on the match against Japan who will be in a better condition than us as they are travelling a shorter distance while we will have a long trip back home,” Osieck said.
