The tension was almost unbearable as the Matilda's headed into extra-time in the Asian Cup Final against North Korea but there was no time for Mick from Rocky-style speeches from Sermanni.

"Tom came up with a great line that really broke the tension," revealed Shipard. "Just as we were walking out he said something like, 'Just go out there and score and get this over and done with so I can go home' and I thought how can you say that as the head coach of the national team!??!"

Sermanni's tension breaker did the job though as the Matilda's never looked troubled during extra-time before scoring all five spot kicks in the shoot-out to bring home the trophy.
