With the Scottish Premiership just about in the bag for another season, Celtic F.C have turned their attention to the release of their new home kit for the 2019/20 season.

The upcoming New Balance strip has divided ‘Hoops’ fans, introducing new elements to what is traditionally a timeless, largely unchanging design.

Whilst ‘The Bhoys’ will retain their iconic green and white hoops, fans have generally been outraged by the apparent omission of the uppermost horizontal band, the consequence of which is a glaring over-presence of white on the jersey’s shoulders.

The strip’s green collar, which has evoked a slightly more positive response from fans, is a throwback to Celtic’s first ever kit from 1889, as it was once the standout feature of a predominantly white shirt.

Interestingly, Celtic spent the next 14 years in green and white vertical stripes, having not adopted their now globally-recognised hoops design until 1903.

The polarising 2019/2020 jersey will be complimented by white shorts and green and white socks, whilst betting company Dafabet will remain as front-of-shirt sponsor.
