The Italian has picked Portsmouth's David James, West Ham's Robert Green and Manchester City's Joe Hart, who spent this season on loan at Birmingham, in his 30-man provisional squad.

Barring injury that trio will go to South Africa, despite Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce claiming Capello had made a mistake in not taking Paul Robinson.

But Seaman, who won 75 caps and went to two World Cups between 1988 and 2002, thinks Capello has done the right thing in opting for Hart.

"For me Capello has got the goalkeepers right," he told Press Association Sport.

"There is a good contrast with David James, who has a huge amount of experience, Robert Green, who is pushing David and Joe Hart, who has had a superb season at Birmingham.

"I know Green has played the last few games but for me David James is first choice.

"Sam Allardyce has a great case for saying Paul Robinson should have been selected but by bringing Joe Hart in he can gain valuable experience.

"When I was in the squad (but not first choice) I still felt I was involved and it is a great experience.

"I know Hart is not going to get a game but if, God forbid, you had two goalkeeping injuries I wouldn't have any worries about Joe because of the season he has had at Birmingham. He is in form."

Seaman also believes Capello's squad have a better chance of success than any of the teams who went to recent World Cups because of how they played in qualifying.

England won nine of their 10 matches as they cruised through but Seaman said they had to back up that by continuing their form into the tournament itself.

"We qualified strongly and played some good stuff and Fabio has really turned it around and I just hope we can take that same game to the tournament," said the former Arsenal goalkeeper.

"There is no point in qualifying so well if we don't take it into the tournament.

"The talent and ability is there, we just need a little bit of luck and things to go right for us and the players to be hitting form at the end of a long season.

"From what I have seen Capello has made a massive difference. He has come in and changed things and they are playing with belief and the players have respect for him.

"They coasted through qualifying so they have to have gained confidence from that."

Seaman also welcomed the recall of Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher after the centre-back agreed to come out of international retirement.

"I was really surprised but he can play in a few positions," said Seaman, promoting Yahoo! Eurosport's World Cup coverage and also Yahoo! UK securing exclusive online rights to Premier League highlights.

"He is a great motivator and reminds me a bit of Tony Adams in the way he gets the players going."
