EXCLUSIVE: Socceroo defender Mark Milligan needs the all-clear from a second MRI scan if he's to play against Joel Griffiths' Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League on Saturday.
Milligan was carried off on a stretcher late in Australia's 3-1 friendly loss last Saturday in Seoul. The Shanghai Shenhua defender was caught on his lower leg by a wild lunge by a South Korean player that went unpunished by the referee.
Milligan, 24, was initially cleared of injury after the game but is having a second scan in Shanghai this Friday to gain the all-clear for selection against Griffiths' club.
Shanghai are currently sitting seventh five points behind CSL leaders Beijing after 21 rounds.
Milligan was part of an inexperienced Socceroo backline consisting of Jade North, Patrick Kisnorbo and Shane Stefanutto.
Despite a shaky start by the Aussie defence, the former Sydney FC defender showed the benefits of playing regularly in the CSL while his long-range throw-ins were a constant menace to the Korean defence.
