Everton manager David Moyes could have decisions to make at both ends of the pitch ahead of Sunday's trip to Bolton.
The form of Louis Saha in recent weeks - including a four-goal haul in last week's thrilling 5-3 win over Blackpool - appeared to have put an end to the Toffees' goalscoring problems.
But with the Frenchman having now suffered an injury which rules him out of the Barclays Premier League clash at the Reebok Stadium, Moyes will have to make a change.
Moyes must also address the issue of a leaky defence which has not kept a clean sheet for 10 games and conceded three against Blackpool.
Moyes said: "I like to score - I am a supporter as well - I like to see goals in action.
"But when you are the manager and do the work - I look at the defensive mistakes we made in the last game and I can't take pride in that.
"Yes I scored five, but I conceded three so I have to do something about the bit that didn't go well.
"Scoring the goals was great but the bit that didn't go well was the conceding.
"Over the years we have been renowned for keeping it tight defensively."
One change Moyes could make at the back would be to restore England defender Phil Jagielka, who after a spell out with a thigh injury has come off the bench in the last two games.
Saha's place is likely to go to Jermaine Beckford, who now appears to be finding his feet at Goodison Park after a difficult start following his summer move from Leeds.
Beckford had to wait three months for his first Premier League goal but has now struck three times in his last six games, including one in the FA Cup.
Saha, after scoring eight goals in six appearances, suffered a hamstring injury this week that is likely to sideline him for 10-14 days.
Moyes said: "Injuries happen, though, don't they? You just have to get on with it. I'd rather talk about the players that are fit."
Moyes is hoping the players he does have available can start to build some momentum after the win over Blackpool ended a run of just two victories in 14 league games.
Everton are still only four points above the relegation zone but Moyes feels they are capable of mounting a challenge for Europe.
He said: "We have got to hope we can go on a run, win three or four games on a row, and hopefully we'll be on the tails of the teams just outside Europe.
"We're only just into February so we've got to hope the best is still to come.
"In the last few years we've tended to do that and that gives the players a bit of belief that the form will come.
"It's coming a bit later than I'd like it to but hopefully we can come through now and get on a run."
Another player missing this weekend is midfielder Jack Rodwell after suffering a groin injury on England Under-21 duty in midweek.
The 19-year-old had just started to enjoy a run in the side after overcoming an injury setback earlier in the season but he could now be out for another four or five weeks.
Moyes said: "I hope the players who are fit are looking forward to going to Bolton, on the back of a good result.
"But Bolton have done well this year. Owen Coyle has got his team playing very well and we know it is going to be a hard game."
