The Serbs crashed out of the tournament as they were beaten 2-1 by Australia in their final Group D game in Nelspruit.

Marko Pantelic, moments after hauling the eastern Europeans back into the game, blazed a glorious late chance over the bar that would have put them into the last 16.

Antic, however, was more disappointed that Tim Cahill was not penalised when the ball struck his arm in the area in the closing minutes.

Antic, not forgetting his team conceded a penalty against Ghana for handball, said: "The referee had a black day when it comes to Serbia.

"The first time we handled the ball we were punished with a penalty.

"This time the referees, including the fourth official, did not want to see that there was a foul that was quite obvious."

Antic had no complaints about his players, who dominated the first half at the Mbombela Stadium but failed to take a number of opportunities.

They were punished after the break as Cahill and Brett Holman struck in the space of four minutes. "We did our best," Antic said. "This was a game of good quality and I cannot reproach my players.

"We had plenty of good opportunities we didn't seize.

"In the end I think that we didn't have fair treatment. We deserved more than happened and we have to go home now.

"We really expected we would get to the last 16 and when it comes to how we played I think we deserved that.

"But the decisions taken by the referees and the opportunities we missed leave us feeling sad."
