Sevilla defender Ivica Dragutinovic has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will miss the World Cup after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.
The 34-year-old Serbia international, who has been in fantastic form this season, tore his left Achilles tendon in training this morning.
A statement on the club's official website, www.sevillafc.es, read: "Very bad news for Sevilla because in this morning's training session Ivica Dragutinovic fell over seriously injured.
"The Serbian tore the tendon in his left Achilles, in such a way that he has been forced to bid farewell to a season in which he was offering a superlative performance.
"Drago will travel to Finland, together with the head of the club's medical services, Juan Ribas, in order to be examined by Sakari Orava, a prestigious surgeon who specialises in this type of injury, who has treated great sportspeople of the elite."
Dr Orava was the surgeon who operated on David Beckham after the England international suffered a similar injury last month.
Dragutinovic has helped Sevilla to two UEFA Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup in five years at the club.
