A minute's silence will be observed before kick-off at all Italian football games this weekend and players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect for the victims of the Abruzzo earthquake.
The death toll rose to 179 today while around 1500 are thought to have sustained injuries following the disaster that struck the central Italian region yesterday.
"This is a tragedy that affects the whole country," said Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete.
"Football is a popular sport that has to bow as a sign of respect.
"We are united in pain for the families of the victims.
"Italian football will continue to show its solidarity with the population hit by the tragedy."
