Fiorentina secured their second win of the Serie A season this evening at the expense of Bari to climb from bottom spot to 11th in the standings.

Marco Donadel set La Viola on their way after 34 minutes and Alberto Gilardino doubled their advantage eight minutes from time at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Alessandro Parisi pulled a goal back for the visitors in stoppage time but it was not enough to deny Sinisa Mihajlovic's side a much-needed victory.

Fiorentina, who had collected four defeats and two draws in their previous six games, appeared determined from the outset to stop the rot and ease the pressure on coach Mihajlovic.

Mario Santana's effort flew just wide of the near post and Riccardo Montolivo's 25-yard blast was well blocked by Bari goalkeeper Jean Francois Gillet before Manuel Pasqual headed wide from Santana's cross.

Marco Marchionni then passed up a fine chance to open the scoring. Andrea Masiello lost the ball on the edge of his own area and Adem Ljajic pounced to supply Marchionni, but his shot from six yards was instinctively saved by Gillett.

The home team got the goal their pressure warranted 11 minutes before the break, though. Marchionni atoned for his miss by setting up Donadel to slot home at the far post.

Gillet made another fine save three minutes later from Montolivo to keep his side only one goal adrift at the break.

Fiorentina had a goal disallowed five minutes into the second half, Ljajic slotting home after a fine one-two with Marchionni, but the Serbian teenager was adjudged offside.

Not to be put off, Ljajic unleashed a fierce effort from the edge of the box just before the hour but saw it fly narrowly wide.

Bari probed for a way back into the game but were restricted to long-range efforts from Abdelkader Ghezzal and Parisi - neither of which troubled Sebastian Frey.

Fiorentina soon grabbed a deserved second when the lively Ljajic cut in from the left and fired goalwards. Gillet made the save but Italy striker Gilardino seized on the rebound to make it 2-0.

The visitors reduced the arrears in stoppage time when Parisi headed home a corner from substitute Marco d'Alessandro.

But there was no time for Bari to force an equaliser, with the only remaining chance in the game coming at the other end when Gilardino met Montolivo's low cross only to see what should have been a straightforward third goal kept out by the feet of Gillet.
