Inter Milan and Roma both picked up their first point of the season in a combative draw at the San Siro which leaves the future of the respective coaches far from certain.
As in the midweek defeat to Trabzonspor, Inter coach Gian Piero Gasperini heard boos echoing around the stadium and was left still waiting for his first win in charge after four attempts.
Roma boss Luis Enrique, on the other hand, will know that what would normally be regarded as a good point in Milan does little to help his own cause.
There was also a worrying injury for Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who was taken to hospital after receiving a boot to the head from Inter defender Lucio and was reported to have briefly lost consciousness.
As for the result, after such a tense encounter with few clearcut chances, neither coach can have too many complaints that their first win of the season will have to wait until at least the middle of next week.
Cagliari edged a tight encounter with Novara at the Stadio Sant Elia with goals from Thiago Ribeiro and Joaquin Larrivey taking the Sardinians to the top of Serie A, at least for a night.
Thiago Ribeiro's first goal in Serie A opened the scoring in the 38th minute and Larrivey added the second four minutes from time.
A consolation effort from Takayuki Morimoto just before the final whistle was not enough to deny Cagliari their second 2-1 win in succession as they rose to the top of the pile ahead of the rest of the weekend's matches in Serie A.
