The Benin international has admitted that he struggled with life at the club initially as his family remained in France, with those much-publicised issues resulting in the playmaker being linked with a move back to Ligue 1.

 

However, the 28-year-old has moved to quash any talk of a move away, insisting that he is now happy with life at Sunderland after starring in Paolo DI Canio's first few matches in charge of the Wearside outfit.

Sessegnon also insisted that he has always been committed to playing for the club, despite any issues he may have had off the pitch.

He told The Northern Echo: " The issue with my family is settled now. Two years ago when I arrived, sometimes my family wasn't here, but now it's fine.

"They live here now and the problem is completely finished.

"Even then [last summer] through, I never gave it [leaving the club] a thought. I didn't think about it and I didn't think about was being said about me."

Sessegnon has made 38 appearances for Sunderland this season and has scored seven goals, including the opener in his side's recent 3-0 derby win over Newcastle.
