Stephane Sessegnon has signed a three-year contract extension with Sunderland pending the renewal of his current work permit.
The Benin international, who joined the Premier League club from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2011, had been linked with a move away from Wearside earlier this year but has committed himself to the club until 2015.
Sessegnon was voted Sunderland's Player of the Season last term and was the club's joint top scorer with eight goals alongside Nicklas Bendtner and Sebastian Larsson.
The attacker has only appeared twice for Martin O'Neill's side this season after picking up an ankle injury against Arsenal on the opening day but is expected to be fit to face Swansea City on Saturday.
