Inter boss Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing Jenas to the San Siro and the 26-year-old England midfielder was also a name that cropped up as a makeweight as Redknapp shaped his Spurs squad.

Jenas was flattered by being on the Special One's radar but during talks with Redknapp was told he is part of the long-term plans at White Hart Lane.

"I was flattered with comments and interest from other clubs and Inter Milan," Jenas said. "I'll be honest, I didn't know where I was at one point but I spoke to the manager and he said he wanted me to stay. That is where we are today.

"If Inter Milan are interested you take notice - it is good for your confidence. But I am a Tottenham Hotspur player, we are in a battle, and I am fully committed to making sure this team stays in the Premier League."

Redknapp bought Wilson Palacios from Wigan to add to Jenas' competition in central midfield - and the former Newcastle and Nottingham Forest player is relishing the challenge.

"He knows what I am capable of," Jenas said.

"I am delighted to be playing again after I was injured. I also played in the draw against Arsenal and hopefully there will be more games to come."

Spurs have got plenty of matches coming up - five in a fortnight starting with the Barclays Premier League clash at Hull on Monday, with Spurs desperate for points to climb the table. They could be in the bottom three by kick-off if results do not go their way.

Then they have a UEFA Cup second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk on the Thursday and the Carling Cup final against Manchester United three days later.

Jenas was part of the makeshift side that lost to Shakhtar in Ukraine and he is likely to feature at Wembley as Palacios is cup-tied.

Redknapp is juggling his squad to keep every available player fit for the showpiece against United.

"No-one is hiding the fact that we have some important matches," Jenas said. "The league is the main thing and we are also in the Carling Cup final.

"We have to battle hard in the league. But I want to win every game and I'll put everything into it.

"It is a busy spell - that is why the manager made some understandable decisions for the team for the Shakhtar match - but we have a lot to look forward to."

Jenas is after revenge at the KC Stadium after Hull defeated Spurs earlier in the season, before Redknapp took over from Juande Ramos as boss.

"That was a low point," Jenas said. "They came and did a job on us. But we have definitely progressed and I think the Arsenal game last week showed that.

"It was a team with energy and confidence - we put ourselves about and did not let teams play it about. We have definitely improved over the last couple of weeks. We have to keep going on and doing that."
