Sevilla retained their UEFA Cup title on Wednesday following a thrilling final clash with Espanyol that was finally decided by penalties.

But that strength-sapping victory looked like coming at the cost of Sevilla's Primera Liga title hopes as they struggled to break down Depor on Sunday before finding themselves 1-0 down following Rodolfo Bodipo's superb 72nd-minute strike.

That was a major blow for a Sevilla side who had beaten Depor three times already this season - scoring nine times and conceding none in the process - but Juande Ramos' side showed great fighting spirit to hit back with two goals in seven minutes to take the spoils.

Midfielder Renato Dirnei headed the visitors level in the 76th minute before top-scorer Frederic Kanoute slotted home the winner eight minutes from time.

Sevilla, who started the day two points behind leading duo Real Madrid and Barcelona, were given a guard of honour by the Depor players as they entered the pitch in tribute to their UEFA Cup success.

And it was the visitors who created the better of the chances in a goalless first half, with Ernesto Chevanton going closest in the 20th minute with an effort that was half-stopped by Dudu Aouate before being hacked behind for a corner.

At the other end, Andres Palop - Sevilla's hero in Wednesday's penalty shoot-out against Espanyol - was kept busy, although Depor rarely looked like making the breakthough.

Palop was left with no chance in the second half though as Depor took a shock lead through substitute Bodipo.

Bodipo had only been on the pitch 12 minutes when he latched onto a deep cross from Filipe before lashing a brilliant volley into the ground and back across Palop from just inside the area.

It was a magnificent finish and at that point Sevilla's hopes of winning only a second Primera Liga title - and first since the 1945/46 season - looked set to be sunk.

But the match was turned on its head in an 11-minute spell, as first Renato beat Dudu to a long free-kick into the area to nod home Sevilla's equaliser, before Kanoute slotted home after Jesus Navas had broken in behind the home defence and squared a pass for the Mali international.

Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano, who had earlier blazed over from eight yards out when the scores were goalless had the chance to make it 3-1 but he could not take advantage.

And Depor almost capitalised deep into injury-time when Sergio's goalbound shot was somehow blocked by Julien Escude with Palop out of his net.

Sevilla, who are also in the final of the Copa del Rey as they hunt a trophy treble this season, complete their league campaign with games against Real Zaragoza, Real Mallorca and Villarreal.
