Sevilla claimed the first silverware of the Spanish season with a 5-3 victory over Primera Liga champions Real Madrid in the Supercopa.
The Copa del Rey and two-time UEFA Cup winners held a 1-0 advantage from the opening leg, and overcame a determined Madrid side in a thrilling return match to seal a 5-3 victory at the Bernabeu.
Looking to make up for their first-leg defeat, things began badly for Madrid when Brazilian midfielder Renato gave the visitors a 16th-minute lead.
New signing Royston Drenthe scored his first goal with Madrid's reply seven minutes later, but Renato silenced the home crowd again with his second of the night after 28 minutes.
A Frederic Kanoute penalty then extended Sevilla's advantage after defender Pepe handled the ball in the area in the 38th minute.
Fabio Cannavaro hit back once more for the league champions to cap an entertaining first half, but they had to wait until the 78th minute for an equaliser when Sergio Ramos found the back of the net with a neat finish.
That should have set up a tense finale but Sevilla refused to be beaten and Kanoute found the back of the net again three minutes later.
Pepe was then given his marching orders with a second yellow card before Kanoute completed his hat-trick in injury time to clinch a 6-3 aggregate win for Juande Ramos' men.
