Walking on the ground this morning, au.fourfourtwo.com experienced how bare the pitch really is with large parts of it no better than a suburban football ground.

The centre of the ground in particular is very bare with the ball bobbling along the surface.

Sydney FC officials were seen inspecting the surface before the team trained on the SFS this morning and the club's hierarchy looked unimpressed.

With co-tenants the Sydney Roosters still in the NRL finals, the rugby league club has continued to train on the pitch in recent weeks. And if the team progress into the grand final next week the team may again train at the SFS.

In the meantime there is a busy schedule of football at the SFS with the sky blues playing three home games on the ground in seven days.

It begins with Gold Coast on Sunday, Fury midweek and Adelaide on October 4. This is followed by the Socceroos game on October 9.

What state the pitch will be in when the World Cup quarter-finalists walk onto the ground only time will tell - but it won't be anywhere near international standard.

The PFA's recent pitch rating report based on feedback from A-League players concluded that the SFS was one of the worst in the league - while Melbourne's AAMI Park was the best.

Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka was putting a brave face on when quizzed on the surface this morning.

"It's not optimal," he said. "But I don't want to complain, it's the same conditions for both teams. We played here before the season [in the festival of football] and it was tough conditions.

"Also rugby season is finishing now ... but it's difficult of course. We have a midweek game on Wednesday but I hope grounds men will do a good job and set up everything."
