Stefanutto joined Fury just three weeks ago, confident that a return to Australia to play in the Hyundai A-League wouldn't jeopardise his chances for the Qantas Socceroos.

"I'd spoken to Pim before returning to Australia and he said then I was in his plans," Stefanutto sad.

"I wasn't really sure what the plan was to be honest - whether the squad to play Korea would be all international-based players or whether there would be some from the Hyundai A-league.

"It shows Pim's a man of his word and it's very exciting for me. It's always exciting to get the chance to represent your country."

It will be the third cap for the 29-year-old from North Queensland's Atherton Tablelands and Gold Coast United Captain Jason Culina joins him as the only two A-League players in the squad.

"I expect it to be a tough test," Stefanutto said. "The Koreans are similar to the Japanese - they play a very technical style of game and they're explosive and sharp.

"We're going into their home ground and it will be a loud, hostile crowd I'm sure, but that's what you expect when you play away from home."

North Queensland Fury FC coach Ian Ferguson was delighted with his defender's national selection and said it was some welcome good news for the club.

"We've had a tough start to the season but there are some people who forget we have players like Shane and young boys like David Williams and Osama Malik who have also recently been in national squads," Ferguson said.

"It's a great thing for Shane to be selected to play for his country and I'm sure David will want to be given another chance with the Qantas Socceroos and Malik recently toured Argentina with the Qantas Young Socceroos.

"We have quality players in this club - we just have to click.

"Everybody is ready for the challenges ahead and while the Fury hasn't had the start you'd want to a season, there's only been three rounds of the Hyundai A-League played."

Ferguson said the team had been competitive against Sydney in round one and again against premiers Melbourne Victory in round 3.

He added: "The Gold Coast glitch is all some people want to remember.

"I think we're unlucky not to have a point from the Sydney FC game and we were close to getting another against Victory."
