The 21-year-old midfielder made the switch from Liverpool to the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday, signing a four-year deal with a reported initial fee of £5 million enough to secure his services. 

Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers had spent two years at the helm of the Welsh club previously and despite Shelvey acknowleding his impact, he heaped praise upon Laudrup. 

"When someone like Michael comes in for you, then you can't really say no," he told the Welsh club's official website.

"I spoke to him and I liked what he had to say. Fingers crossed, it will all click on the pitch.

"He was one of the world's best players - he has experience of playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid, so hopefully I can get some games under him and progress well. I want to learn under him and hopefully he can develop me into a top player."

Shelvey also confirmed that Rodgers had suggested the move would be a good one to make as he was unable to guarantee him first-team football at Anfield next season. 

He will now join up with Swansea who are about to commence a four-game tour of the Netherlands.
