Shevchenko has failed to shine under new coach Avram Grant despite the introduction of a sprint coach and different training techniques.

The striker had to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench until the second half of their 4-0 defeat of Rosenborg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich was convinced that Grant was the man to get the best out of the club-record signing but so far there has been little recognised improvement.

And Shevchenko told Sportske novosti: "We had good results last week, so it's difficult to complain. I'm not happy, but what can I do, I keep working and being quiet."

The Chelsea star was also asked about the club's interest in Croatia midfielder Luka Modric, but Shevchenko replied: "I know that Modric has been mentioned, but I don't know anything more about it.

"I come to the training or match, and then I go home. I'm not interested in what's going on up there in the offices, neither would they tell me anything, even if I would ask them."

When asked whether Modric would fit into Chelsea's team, Shevchenko said: "I failed fitting into the team myself, so I don't have the right to talk about other guys."

Meanwhile, left-back Ashley Cole believes Chelsea's former coach Jose Mourinho would be a perfect England boss.

Mourinho is thought to be among the favourites to succeed the sacked Steve McClaren and Cole says he would be happy to work with Mourinho again.

"Jose is a great manager and I really enjoyed playing under him," Cole told www.skysports.com.

"I think he is one of the best managers around, but whether or not the FA try to get him is up to them really."

Cole, who missed England's defeat to Croatia because of injury, added: "All the players were devastated at not qualifying. Every player wants to play in the big tournaments and we are no different.

"To miss out on a tournament is a major blow and I know what people mean when they say no words can explain how they feel as that is how all the players feel. Afterwards in the dressing room no one could speak as we were all so disappointed."
