Adelaide United star Sergio Cirio has been ruled out for an indefinite period following a crude tackle in the opening minute of Friday night's A-League clash.
Cirio suffered significant ligament damage to his right knee in the Reds' 2-1 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers at Coopers Stadium.
And in a statement on Monday the reigning champions didn't hold back.
"Cirio was shockingly fouled by Western Sydney Wanderers defender, Jack Clisby in the opening 53 seconds of the Reds’ clash with last season’s runners-up," the club said.
"The forward attempted to play-on through his injury, however the damage caused by Clisby’s challenge was too significant for the Spaniard to continue and he was soon replaced.
"This comes only a few weeks after Cirio returned from a fibula fracture that he sustained in pre-season and could see him miss up to 10 weeks."
The Reds were left fuming by a couple of rash challenges from the Wanderers including what looked like a straight red infringement by substitute striker Brendon Santalab.
Santalab cut down James Holland but escaped with a yellow and went on to score the winner.
