Sydney Olympic, a grand finalist in last season's NSW Premier League, have supplied players to Sydney FC, Central Coast and the Jets this season.

These players include Shannon Cole, Matthew Jurman and Chris Triantis at Sydney FC as well as Nathan Sherlock at the Mariners and the Jets' George Stroglios.

Sydney Olympic CEO Danny Silvestri told au.fourfourtwo.com that they've hired a third-party to help the club retrieve their money.

"No, we haven't been paid," he said. "We've brought in Terry Palapanis to assist us in retrieving our money.

"A few of our former players have signed professional contracts but also some who are in the youth teams are on amateur status. Obviously that's something we need to clarify. But either way, we have yet to be paid."

Under current regulations, state league clubs are given a compensation figure of around $3000 for players who are signed to A-League clubs.

"This situation goes back a few years," adds Sivestri. "We still haven't been paid for Zenon Caravella who left for the New Zealand Knights a few years ago.

"And there are others too. Joel Porter is another if you want to go back further."

While this may say something about Olympic's accounting department, it also highlights what many state league clubs say is an unfair system of compensation for discovering and developing A-League talent.

It's understood that the only money Olympic has seen from the sale of former players in recent times was $35,000 from the FFA.

It was as a result of a sell-on clause after former player Nick Carle left Newcastle Jets for Genclerbirligi 18 months ago.

And it's this sell-on clause that Silvestri sees as being vital to the survival of state league clubs who are doing it tough in a league that is vital to the A-League talent stocks but struggles badly for money and profile.

"The $3,000 fee really is just compensation," he said. "Sell-on clauses is where we should be able to make some money on players we discovered, like Shannon Cole."

Sydney FC today said the ball was rolling for payments to be made to the club.

"We've already started the administrative process with the FFA regarding Shannon Cole," said a club spokesman. "It's our understanding that the FFA will pay Sydney Olympic at some point.

"Regarding Triantis and Jurman, they were signed as youth league players so it's our understanding that it doesn't apply. However, Jurman has been signed for next season. As of 30 April he becomes a first team squad player. It's unclear if the fee then would apply."

Meanwhile, Olympic has begun pre-season training under new coach Aytek Genk.

The former Socceroo has taken over from Milan Blagojevic, who stepped down for personal reasons, said the club.
