The Argentina international complained of a knee problem following last week`s Champions League semi-final with Manchester United, during which he played the full 90 minutes, and tests have subsequently confirmed he has damaged ligaments.

The Barcelona medical team said in a statement: "After the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford Gaby Milito ended with discomfort in his right knee that required clinical exploration and the corresponding tests.

"The result of these tests show that the player has suffered an alteration of the anterior cruciate in the right knee."

The 27-year-old Milito, who joined Barca last summer from Real Zaragoza, is due to undergo surgery next week and is expected to be missing until around November.
