The Sky Blues are two games clear on top of the table and lock horns with Adelaide United on Boxing Day.

Sydney still remain undefeated in the A-League with its only loss in all competitions coming in the FFA Cup Final to Melbourne City.

“When you start the season well, the confidence grows and winning or not losing can be a habit and that’s where we’re at the moment,” Wilkinson said.

“The boys are pretty resilient and I think that togetherness helps in games when things aren’t going well on the weekend.

“You go down but 30 seconds later we’re on the other end scoring, so it shows that never give up attitude and that togetherness we have in the squad goes a long way doing well in the A-League.

“We’re lucky pre-season is so long and it gives time for players like myself and all the new players that came to the squad time to gel and get to know not only the coach but the other players.

“A lot of hard work in pre-season and FFA Cup games which we won linked into the season.”

Sydney fly to Adelaide on Christmas Day and Wilkinson said the squad had to be professional in leaving family behind during the festive season.

Wilkinson also said he felt United’s position on the table was not reflective of their performances as the last meeting with the Reds ended in a 0-0 home draw.

“The last game was probably one of our poorer performances, we didn’t keep the ball well enough, we gave away a lot of cheap possession and all in all it was a messy game,” he said.

“We’ll just play the way we always play, press higher up the park, look for turnovers and when we get it try to punish them.

“They’re a team you definitely can’t underestimate… they’ve had a few injuries and some players have come back into the team from the last two weeks that have been very important for them.

“We’re expecting a difficult game especially at (Coopers), they’re always very hard to beat there.”
