SYDNEY FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka admits he is hoping to sign a targetman to complement the talent already at his disposal ahead of the new A-League season.
The Sky Blues have lost Steve Corica, John Aloisi, Simon Colosimo, Clint Bolton and Karol Kisel from their championship winning side and need to re-build.
"I'm happy that we have a deep squad, because we signed Nicky Carle, we signed Scott Jamieson, we signed Liam Reddy," Lavicka said.
"Now we're looking for the strong and tall type of striker, because we have good quality creative strikers in Alex Brosque and Mark Bridge, and we need a little bit different type of striker to play with them.
"We want to bring in an experienced player but a good quality player and physically strong as well.
"I prefer to get this player for a trial, he can play with us for a couple of days, weeks, play a pre-season game and after that we can make a decision - that's my way."
Sydney FC chief executive Edwin Lugt said he was hopeful the club would make an announcement on the striker soon.
"We certainly hope we'll be able to announce the striker within two to three weeks," he said.
"He's not from Australia, unfortunately because we would have loved it if we'd been able to identify a proper striker in this country."
In other news, the Adelaide Advertiser claims Dwight Yorke will return to Sydney FC to make a guest appearance in July's friendly against Everton.
It is understood, Yorke's agent Lou Sticca confirmed the former Manchester United star would play a belated farewell match for the Sky Blues, whom he won the inaugural A-League title with.
