NEW Zealand football fans are up in arms over reports SKY TV New Zealand are about to dump the A-League highlights show and other football programmes.
According to media reports, SKY's World of Football and A-League highlights package are set to go at the end of December.
One New Zealand newspaper says A-League games not involving Wellington Phoenix are attracting their lowest ratings since the competition kicked off in 2005.
It's understood football is not the only loser in these cut backs which are said to be a result of the global economic downturn.
World of Football was a particularly popular show with Kiwi football fans as it showed highlights from all levels of football – from NZ FC to women's football and the All-Whites.
Wellington Phoenix supporter group Yellow Fever is encouraging disgruntled footy fans to email SKY NZ.
Earlier this year, SKY NZ said no to the chance of covering Phoenix versus Melbourne Victory pre-season grand final at Westpac Stadium last August.
However, after intense fan and media pressure, the subscription channel promptly changed its mind.
Fans in New Zealand are hopeful of a similar result with their TV shows.
And with 2009 potentially being a World Cup qualification year for the All-Whites, SKY may have to reverse any such decision should the game take off like it has in Australia following Germany 2006.
