Postecoglou this week signed with Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos after leading Australia through an arduous qualifying campaign to claim a spot at next year’s World Cup.

Speculation regarding the future of the former Socceroos mentor was rife throughout World Cup qualifying, mainly due to Postecoglou’s unwillingness to clarify his intentions with the mentor finally pulling the pin late last month.

And he took a similar tact throughout the 30-minute Fox Sports interview with the chat arguably leaving viewers with more questions than answers.

And Slater reckons its "bullshit".

"I thought it was soft, I thought it was weak, I thought it was full of excuses," the former Socceroo said of the interview on the Big Sports Breakfast.

"He didn't actually give a reason why he left."

Slater had been critical of Postecoglou's tactics, especially when Australia continued to stutter during their long qualifying campaign.

Postecoglou touched on the criticism he copped from the media and footballing public in general during the interview, indicating it did have a bearing on him deciding to leave his post as national coach.

Slater said Postecoglou should have set the record straight instead of giving limp excuses.

"At the end of the day, Ange walked out on his nation, he walked out on his country. He had a commitment to go to the World Cup," Slater said.

"Instead, he's chosen money in Japan. I've got no problem with that, but don't give us all the bullshit along the way.

"To say that criticism is part of it? Give me a break."
