SHANE Smeltz's agent has rubbished reports the Wellington Phoenix striker has signed for another A-League club next season.
Gold Coast United and Adelaide United have both been strongly linked with the forward while Phoenix insist every effort will be made to keep Smeltz at Westpac Stadium.
Earlier this week, Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata said the club was happy to offer Smeltz a one, two or three-year deal and that if the player did eventually leave then it wouldn't be for the want of trying on the club's part.
Agent Leo Karis told The Dominion Post: "I have not spoken to any A-League club about Shane Smeltz.
"I know there has been some stuff saying he has already signed with Adelaide, that he has already signed with Gold Coast.
"If that's the case then there must be three of four Shane Smeltzes in the world, but the one I hope we are talking about has not signed a contract with anybody."
Karis has indicated that the player's future is unlikely to be resolved speedily.
"We're in no rush. It's not inconceivable Shane Smeltz will be a Wellington player for many years to come. It's not inconceivable that we may pursue opportunities abroad.
"There is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of time to pass before Shane's future is resolved," he said.
