Gomes believes the knock he picked up against Stoke contributed to his high-profile blunders and his recovery has helped him regain confidence.

The 27-year-old has also been helped by Redknapp publicly backing him and appointing Tony Parks as a goalkeeper coach - with the result being a solid five games.

Against Manchester United on Saturday he kept out Ryan Giggs' last-minute free-kick to earn Spurs a point with a goalless draw.

"I'm still feeling pain but the injury is getting better step by step, and I'm very happy," Gomes said.

"I am now in form, a month ago my injury was very difficult. I was not enjoying it. But I knew my quality and believed in myself."

Gomes is now enjoying his football again, adding: "I like a smile so much. This is very important for me."

Michael Dawson's performance at centre-back also kept out United, and the defender played down an incident where Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to aim a kick at him.

"I made a tackle and was running off so I don't know what happened," he said
