RANGERS manager Walter Smith has warned potential suitors Kevin Thomson is not for sale.
Reports last week suggested West Brom could be set to make a bid for the midfielder, who arrived at Ibrox in a £2million deal 18 months ago.
Tony Mowbray is reportedly keen to be reunited with a player who was an important part of his team at Hibernian.
Thomson is set to face extra competition for places at Rangers in the coming weeks with the return of Barry Ferguson, as well as Pedro Mendes and Steven Davis being in fine form.
But Smith insists he has no intention of selling any of his key players in the January transfer window.
"We have got two months before the next transfer window opens," he said.
"There is never any thought in my mind about losing the midfield players we have got here. We need them in the future with the amount of games increasing.
"The good players I have got, I want to keep here.
"With the size of my squad, some players will be leaving but it will not be the ones that are going to take us forward in the future."
Kirk Broadfoot has also been the subject of speculation having been linked with a move to Birmingham.
But a new deal at Rangers is in the pipeline and should cement his Ibrox future.
Smith added: "I have no problem with giving him a new contract - that will come.
"He had a really good season with us last year. He has cemented that with the way he has played and his steadiness with which he has played this season.
"He was a bit inconsistent when he first arrived but now he is gaining experience and is doing really well for us."
One player who could be heading for the exit door is Steven Smith, who is on the comeback trail after being hampered by injury for the last two years.
But Smith has assured the full-back he still has a long-term future at Rangers.
He said: "He has been out for two years and the reserve games do him no good whatsoever.
"I spoke to him the other day with a view to going out on loan to try and get a number of meaningful games under his belt.
"Then we will all have a better judgment of where he is and whether he can come back into the team.
"He has been here 22 months now and he has played two games and even then he wasn't fully match-fit.
"We have not been able to see the best of the lad so my idea is to get him out on loan and playing a number of games and then everybody has a better indication of where we are."
