The Scottish Premier League title hopefuls take on Stuttgart, Lyon and Barcelona in Group E, with the top two teams advancing to the next round.

A maximum haul of points at home would put Rangers in a strong position, and the first test comes on Wednesday when German champions Stuttgart are their visitors.

"The home matches will be crucial for all the clubs, I think they will give us a basis," Smith told www.uefa.com.

"We managed to get through the qualifying games against Red Star Belgrade and Zeta so we know that we can compete on a level.

"We'll have to show that we can step up a level. Anything we can achieve in the Champions League will be down to our home form and we would hope that getting a home game to start would give us a good start."
