Socceroo Brad Smith made a solid competitive debut for Bournemouth in their 2-1 victory over Morecambe.
The left back joined the Cherries in July after Liverpool accepted a £6m offer for his services.
The 22-year-old played all game in what was the club’s first win of the campaign.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe said he was pleased with his side’s efforts in a victory he hoped would spark his side’s season.
"It was really important tonight," he told BBC Radio Solent.
"You need to win to get that winning feeling, we knew it would be tough on their own patch and the position they're in.
"Fair play to the players for their reaction to the equaliser. They showed great character to get a grip on the game again, we had a few chances weren't clinical the way they came.
"Moments like this can be the starting point for a season, it has given us a good platform.
"Overall I'm pleased with the attitude of everyone, they owed it to everyone connected with the club, not least the supporters who made the long journey."
