Ikonomidis is currently in camp with the Socceroos ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and the United Arab Emirates and will join the Danish Superliga side this season on loan from Serie A club Lazio.

Ikonomidis will line up alongside fellow Australian Mustafa Amini.

“Chris is an accomplished winger who has flair. With his speed and technique, he can both be included in the collective game and create something on their own,” Aarhus sports Chief Jens Andersson told the club’s website.

“He also knows the way to goal, and he will thus make our game more unpredictable and give us more strings to our attack.”

Ikonomidis started his club career with Sutherland Sharks before moving to Serie A club Atalanta in 2009.

He then signed with Lazio in 2012 and debuted for club in December 2015.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder spent part of last season on loan with Italian second division side Salernitana in a 14-match stint.
