The Socceroos coach has included some surprises in his 35-strong squad ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Qatar in Brisbane.

Adelaide United have four players in the squad including goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic and midfielder Paul Reid while Central Coast Mariners skipper Alex Wilkinson is also handed a chance.

Sydney FC's Shannon Cole has been rewarded for his early season form while Newcastle Jets duo Jade North and Ante Covic feature once again.

Craig Moore returns to the international stage as the only Queensland Roar representative with Archie Thompson the sole Melbourne Victory member of the squad.

Adelaide boss Vidmar said: "I’m very pleased for the boys. They’ve all had pretty good seasons up to now so that’s fantastic. It’s fantastic for the club. It’s a credit to the players, they’ve really done the hard work and the form on all of them has been tremendous so it’s understandable that Pim wants to have a look at them."

Central Coast Mariners are also thrilled to see a trio of their players included. Executive chairman Lyall Gorman said: "On behalf of everyone at the Mariners, I congratulate Mile, Matt and Alex on their selection for the Qantas Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup qualifier against Qatar. It is indeed a fitting reward for each of them for their outstanding form with the Mariners.

"We as a club are totally supportive of the Qantas Socceroos’ quest for qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and are very proud to be able to provide Pim Verbeek with three exceptional talents that I’m sure will represent their country with pride and honour if given the chance."

Newcastle Jets CEO John Tsatsimas said: "Both Jade and Ante have become regulars with the Socceroos in recent times and it is a testament to their professionalism, talent and commitment.

“Certainly as a club we’re hoping that the Socceroos succeed in their World Cup qualification campaign, and this game against Qatar is no different."
