Socceroos and Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici had a night to forget after a 3-2 loss to Preston in the English Football League Cup overnight.
The Australian was embarrassed early by Preston’s Simon Makionek who got past the glovesman in the 10th minute, beating him at his near post in what should have been a simple save.
But Bournemouth hit back through goals either side of half time from Lewis Grabban and Dan Gosling to take a 2-1 lead early in the second stanza.
Makionek scored his second in the 85th minute sending the match to overtime after the striker got a slight touch off a Chris Humphreys cross.
Makionek capped his night out by completing his hatrick in the the 111th minute with a close range chip.
Fellow Australians Brad Smith (Bournemouth) and Bailey Wright (Preston) also had game time.
Preston now progress to the fourth round of the English League Cup.
