Chris Herd has made his debut for Chennaiyin after joining the Indian Super League club last month.
Herd came off the bench in Chennaiyin's 2-1 loss to Pune City.
The defender, capped three times by the Socceroos, signed for the Marina Machans until the end of this season.
The club are coached by Englishman John Gregory.
Herd had been without a club since leaving Thai side Buriram United last year.
"Chennaiyin FC is a new challenge for me and one I am genuinely excited about," the 29-year-old told The Times of India.
"I am looking forward to help the club pick up as many points as possible in the remainder of the ISL campaign and of course there are two cup competitions to look forward to after that."
