They join Nikita Rukavytsya for their first ever call up to the Socceroos squad alongside returning Socceroos  goalkeeper Ante Covic, midfielder James Holland and defender Patrick Kisnorbo. Kisnorbo last appeared in the senior national team at the AFC Asian Cup 2007 against Iraq.

Dario Vidosic and Rhys Williams have also gained selection after making their successful Socceroo debuts against Japan at the MCG in June of this year.

This will be the second time the Socceroos have faced the Republic of Ireland. The previous occasion was on the 19th August 2003 when the Qantas Socceroos lost 1-2 at Lansdowne Road in Dublin.

The match will also be the first for the Qantas Socceroos since qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World CupTM after topping Group A of the 4th round of Asian qualifiers, ahead of Japan, Bahrain, Qatar and Uzbekistan.
