Fringe Socceroo and Adelaide United favourite Craig Goodwin is returning to the City of Churches.
Goodwin returns to the Reds after a mixed spell at Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam, where he was unable to secure his place in the side alongside Australian teammate, Kenneth Dougall.
“I’m obviously very excited,” Goodwin said. “I’ve left Holland with things not ending the way I would have liked, but I’m looking forward to this new opportunity to really take me to the next level.
“I just want to get back to really enjoying my football and that’s what I did in the two years I spent here before, creating some of the most memorable moments of my career and of my life as well.
“I also really want to be able to share some more great moments with the fans, with my teammates, and with my family and friends. One of the things I really remember is when Coopers Stadium is packed out the atmosphere is unbelievable.
“And if there’s one thing I can say to the fans is to try and pack out every game as much as possible.
“If we can do that then it’ll help the boys on the field and we can really try and give our supporters something to be proud of.”
Coach Marco Kurz was similarly excited to be aquiring a top-drawer winger into the side, given the recent loss of Denmark international Johan Absalonsen.
26-year-old Goodwin, now entering the physical peak of his career, bagged 10 goals in 59 appearances during his first spell at United.
“It is fantastic that we have been able to bring Craig back to Adelaide United,” Kurz said. “Craig was one of our main targets and I am sure he will help us a lot next season.
“Craig was very successful with our Club when he was here two seasons ago and proved his quality by signing for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
“He comes back to Adelaide a much more experienced player and someone that will help us a lot going forward.”
