Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson told his club’s website that Rizzo was “inventive… he’s not the biggest but has decent feet. He prefers his left and plays wide on the left or right.” However, Rizzo wasn’t on the team sheet on Saturday as Yeovil beat Chesterfield 1-0 with a late goal.

Rizzo, 27, is a former Liverpool fringe player in the mid-late 90s who was signed by then Socceroos boss Terry Venables for Crystal Palace in 1998. He played for the Eagles for two seasons making 42 appearances and scoring four goals.

After Palace experienced severe financial difficulties, Rizzo moved to Italy where he played four seasons for lower tier clubs Ternana, Ancona and Prato. Injury cruelled much of his time in Italy before he moved back to the UK – on Venables’ recommendation – to MK Dons in 2005.

Rizzo played for Australia against Croatia in 1998 in Venables’ final game in charge of the Socceroos. He was also part of the Olyroos’ 2000 campaign.
