Coach Bert van Marwijk has had to fund eight Dutch technical staff out of his own pocket to ready the Socceroos for the World Cup, according to an exclusive report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Football Federation’s tight budget, and decision to stick with the existing backroom crew, called for some drastic action by the Dutch tactician who has had minimal time to work with the Aussies since taking over from Ange Postecoglou.
Van Marwijk told the Herald the restricted time frame meant he needed to hit the ground running.
"When you try to develop a team in such a short time I need to work with people who know me," he said.
"They must look through my eyes, they must know what I mean. I cannot afford communication problems. You need time to get to know each other and I don’t have the time. I would like to work with Australian people."
