There'll be no 2-1 win over New Zealand to inspire the Socceroos to victory in Russia, with plans for a final friendly match scrapped for a training camp.
Fairfax media are reporting that van Marwijk will hold a training camp in Turkey instead of returning home for a final match, as has become custom before World Cup campaigns.
This comes after the Socceroos coach announced his preference for training camps to prepare his squad, rather than friendlies.
As FourFourTwo reported in early February, Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop said that while a farewell game would be "wonderful", financial considerations were the major factor.
“Obviously it’d be wonderful to have a big farewell game back on home soil but we’d need to have the commercial return for it to make sense," he said.
FFA is reportedly still seeking to organise another two matches in late May or early June, with Hungary and the Czech Republic - two sides not competing in the tournament - appearing the early favourites.
In 2014, Australia drew 1-1 with South Africa and in 2010 the Socceroos beat New Zealand 2-1 in farewell games in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.
