Stories have emerged of fans who already had been delivered their Fan IDs, which act as visa for the World Cup, receiving emails from the Russian Government saying they had been cancelled without explanation.

Socceroos fan Aaron Camm had spent thousands arranging his entire trip with flights, accommodation and tickets booked before recently receiving the news.

"I'm crushed, gutted but also puzzled about why it has happened," Camm told Network Ten's The Project.

"Everything has been organised and a couple of weeks out this has happened."

Camm exchanged emails following the communication, requesting an explanation for the decision which wasn't forthcoming.

"I've honestly got no idea," he said. "I've been to plenty of away trips over the years, been a good fan when I go away.

"I can't think of any reason why this would come up."

Reuban Garlett was another fan to have their Fan ID rejected, although he initially thought the emails were a scam.

"I went to the Fan ID website and used their contact form in case it was not legit," Garlett told ABC.

"I basically just got a standard response saying they have the right to cancel anyone's Fan ID without providing any particular detail around the cancellation."
