AUSTRALIA face a major headache as they embark on their final preparations with Pim Verbeek describing the surface at Ruimsig Stadium, the training ground during the campaign, as hopeless.
Australia has spent its time so far in South Africa training at St Stithians College in suburban Johannesburg, but this week, after moving its team base to Kloofzicht Lodge, is set to move its training operations to the ground where it has played friendlies against Denmark and USA.
The surface of the pitch has been widely criticised by players, with chunks being taken out of the turf on several occasions during the two matches.
The players also said the bumpy and sandy surface made the ball hard to read and it difficult to keep footing.
Verbeek has asked FFA officials to canvas other options, but it believed FIFA will not approve a move to another base on such short notice.
The Dutchman was scathing when asked about his thoughts on the pitch after the 3-1 loss to USA on Saturday.
"It looked very good when we started, it was hopeless when we finished," he said.
"Okay, we have to get used to that. We have to use it for ten days. Maybe it's good not to train on a not so good field, and I hope that the World Cup stadium will be very good."
Australia is scheduled to move its training base to Ruimsig Stadium on Monday, with its first match against Germany set down for Sunday in Durban.
