The 28-year-old is a free agent after terminating his deal with Chinese club Liaoning Whowin after they failed to honour his contract.

There has been speculation as to where Kruse will move next having previously spent six years in Germany with Fortuna Dusseldorf, VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen.

Kruse also emerged at Brisbane Roar before earning his European switch following a strong two-year spell at Melbourne Victory where he worked under Newcastle Jets coach Ernie Merrick.

The Brisbane-born talent’s immediate focus is the Socceroos’ upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia but his club future looms.

“I’m really happy with what I’ve been able to do in my career so far,” Kruse said.

“I’m really confident I can get back playing which is a focus of mine, I need to secure my future soon, but firstly it’s all about Thursday night.”

Kruse only managed seven appearances at club level throughout the 2016-17, having moved from Leverkusen to Liaoning in January.

The winger was fit and available throughout but overlooked for selection, which is frustrating for Kruse given his previous injury woes.

Kruse missed the 2014 World Cup after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament while training with Leverkusen in January of that year.

He also suffered a long-term ankle injury in the 2015 Asian Cup final which left him on the sidelines for the remainder of that campaign, before issues the following season when on loan at Stuttgart.

“I’ve been through really terrible injuries over the last five years or so,” Kruse said.

“I unfortunately missed a World Cup and did another injury when I finally got back for the Asian cup. That was disappointing.

“I’m very proud to be able to come back from those setbacks.”

Kruse’s performances in green and gold over the next month could help him secure his future, particularly when Australia is in the spotlight at the Confederations Cup.

“I’ve been fit for a while and hopefully I can continue this and keep building and have some good performances at the Confeds Cup and then hopefully make the World Cup,” Kruse said.
