Blackburn Rovers midfielder Brett Emerton has declared his allegiance to Australia's Asian Cup challenge despite a potential overlap with the Ewood Park side's Intertoto Cup campaign.
The Socceroos are among the favourites to win the Asian Cup and should Graham Arnold's side reach the July 29 final in Jakarta, the continental showdown would clash with the potentially lucrative Intertoto Cup.
Blackburn finished 10th in the Premiership this season and have been put forward as England's entrants in the competition, with the first leg of their third-round match scheduled to take place on July 21/22 and the second leg a week later.
"I will definitely be at the Asian Cup and I may miss the Intertoto Cup which won't make Blackburn happy," Emerton revealed.
"It's always a difficult situation because clubs obviously aren't always happy when we go away to represent the national team.
"I'm really looking forward to the Asian Cup and after the World Cup it will be great to go into a tournament once again and we'll have a real chance of going there and winning it and achieving something."
Australia coach Arnold flew to Europe in April to discuss the availability of players for tournament and met with Rovers boss Mark Hughes, Liverpool supremo Rafa Benitez and Everton's David Moyes.
"The trip was worthwhile, it went well and Arnie's doing well communicating with the players as well as the managers from various clubs," added Emerton.
"Obviously Mark Hughes isn't happy 100% of the time so it's important that the two managers do communicate and get an understanding of each other's requirements. But they've always been good in letting me go and representing my country."
Emerton is expected to be included in a 20-man squad for the June 2 friendly meeting with Uruguay.
"I've made myself available and, barring any injuries, I'll be playing," he added.
"Mentally I feel okay to be honest, physically you do start to feel the effects after 50 games a season and each and every one is played like a cup final in the Premiership, so you can never take it easy."
