AUSTRALIA'S unconfirmed upcoming friendly with Chile appears set to be scrapped following a recent upheaval within the Chilean national football association.
The Socceroos were understood to be scheduled to play the South American nation at Adelaide Oval on June 3.
But following a recent changing of the guard at Chile's Football Federation, where former president Harold Mayne-Nicholls was ousted, the new regime does not intend to honour the arrangement.
"The ANFP (Chilean Football Federation) makes efforts to suspend or postpone the visit to Australia arranged for the June 3 clash by the administration of Harold Mayne-Nicholls," Chile's todofutbol website said.
ANFP president Sergio Jadue and Chile coach Claudio Borghi have told Chilean media they want the game suspended or postponed.
It is believed that breaking the contract would cost the ANFP only $150,000.
Australia are keen to also organise a friendly against Serbia on June 7 but that fixture remains unconfirmed, meaning the Socceroos next match may be a World Cup qualifier.
But an FFA spokesperson told the Adelaide Advertiser that they remained hopeful of organising friendlies for June.
"FFA is in negotiations with a number of potential opponents for possible friendly matches in Australia in early June," the spokesperson said.
"FFA has not confirmed who those opponents will be and at what venues the matches will be played.
"However, negotiations are at an advanced stage and FFA is confident that they will be extremely exciting international fixtures and they will be announced when all of the contractual details have been finalised."
